Wellness tourism could grow in the UAE

Arabian Travel News in partnership with Arabian Travel Market hosted recently a roundtable gathering where it was ascertained that the Middle East presented “huge potential” when it comes to health & wellness tourism.

Panellists agreed that the UAE, though still not high on wellness breaks seeking travellers’ agenda, opportunities to develop this sector were being more and more perceived as these were gradually turned into reality.

Complex general manager Le Méridien Al Aqah Beach Resort and Al Maha Desert Resort Patrick Antaki noted: “It’s a huge potential. Who would have thought three – four years ago that Dubai was going to think about 2020. Dubai has always gone from one milestone to the next.

“A lot of the GCC who used to go abroad, we’ve seen have started moving the money back into the Middle East, have started travelling within the Middle East, because the respect they get is a lot more here. The people understand them, the families, et cetera.”

His comments were echoed by ITL World senior manager — product development Naouphale Mohammed, who added: “It’s again, a matter of perception, and reaching out and giving the right message. Of course, it’ll take its time.”
