Work on the new $12bn Jeddah Metro in Saudi Arabia is continuing to progress, with reports that a British Architecture firm to Design all Jeddah Metro stations.  in effect it is the British architecture firm Foster + Partners that is in line to design all 46 stations on the project.

The project is a joint venture between the Saudi Arabia Municipality and Jeddah Urban Regeneration Company. When completed, it will deliver a properly integrated transport mega-project, including metro, trams, commuter railway, bus, ferries and taxis. While all construction work is set to be completed in 2022, the project won’t be ready for public use until 2022, as there will be a series of stringent safety tests carried out first.

If Foster + Partners does win the contract, the practice is in line to earn up to $100 million for the work. Preliminary engineering designs are already being carried out by French consultancy firm Systra, who won a $73.6 million contract in July, while Aecom are also contracted to carry out preliminary planning and design work.

Dubai Metro remains the only operational metro system in the GCC.
